Mindfulness Meditation

In 2023, Dr. Pittman completed a two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. This program is supported by Sounds True and the University of California Greater Good Science Center. In addition to courses tailored to kinship caregivers, I develop courses to support Black graduate students.

My Introduction to Mindfulness for Kinship Caregivers class offers a 4-week introduction to basic practices and concepts related to mindfulness meditation practice, including defining mindfulness; discussing and practicing mindfulness of the breath, body, thoughts and emotions; and cultivating heart practices. Each 60-minute course is geared towards the needs of kinship caregivers. Overall, the course aims to bring mindfulness practices into participants' personal lives and the worlds they interact in. We spend time at the end of each class fellowshipping.
